As the summer sun starts making more and more frequent appearances, your thoughts might start turning to exercise and keeping fit.

Do you use one of our Leisure and Activity Centres across the county borough? Or are you thinking about joining?

We and our partners Freedom Leisure, who run all of our Leisure and Activity Centres, along with dual-use sites and 3G pitches, can help you stay fit this summer.

Throughout 2016 to 2017, we worked together to bring more than £2.7million worth of improvements to all centres and sites, with more than £1.5m invested at Waterworld in the town centre.

This included new equipment and refits across all sites, as well as a completely new gym at Waterworld and a new state-of-the-art MyRide spinning room.

Improvements were also carried at out Chirk, Queensway and Gwyn Evans, and the dual use sites at Ysgol Clywedog, Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Rhosnesni High School, Ysgol Rhiwabon and Darland High School.

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, the Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty, with responsibility for Leisure, recently completed a series of visits to each of the centres.

Very pleased with the work done

Cllr Atkinson said: “I wasn’t in post when this work started, so one of my priorities when I took up the role was to visit each of the Leisure and Activity sites, 3G pitches and dual use centres, in order to see the improvements carried out by Freedom Leisure for myself.

“Having had the opportunity to visit each of the sites myself and speak to staff and customers, I’m very pleased with all the work that’s been done, and users are too.”

Cllr Atkinson added: “I’d also advise centre users to consider Freedom Leisure’s Wrexham Connected Membership, which allows them to join at one facility and use the rest.

“That would give them access to five gyms, three pools and more than 100 different exercise classes across all of Freedom’s facilities.

“This would be especially useful for someone living near one facility and working near another, such as someone commuting in from Chirk to Wrexham town centre.”

Andy Harris, Freedom Leisure Area Manager, added: “It was great to show Councillor Atkinson around all the centres, which since the improvement works now feature some of the very best facilities and kit in Wales.

“Our key objective when operating these facilities on behalf of Wrexham County Borough Council is to help support an active Wrexham, and these centres really do have something for everyone, whatever your age, ability, activity preference and income.”

To register your interest in a Wrexham Connected Membership, call Waterworld on 01978 297300 or register your interest by using this link.
