In 2019 Wrexham Council declared a climate and ecological emergency and we have developed a plan to guide our actions in reducing our carbon.

What is a Climate and Carbon Conversation? What’s the conversation about? When and where are the conversations?

We are keen for people that live and work in Wrexham to be a part of that journey and so we are delighted to invite everyone to the first of Wrexham’s Carbon and Climate Conversations on August 2, 2023 from 4.30-5.30pm (full details below).

What is a Climate and Carbon Conversation?

The Climate and Carbon Conversation is a space where everyone can:

  • Take part in open discussions about climate change and explore potential solutions together.
  • Increase their awareness about the potential impacts on our local communities.
  • Work and act together to create change.
  • Meet in a supportive environment for learning, sharing and capacity building on climate change-related topics.
  • Advocate for positive action across Wrexham.
  • Feel free to share ideas or just learn from others.

Cllr David A Bithell, Deputy Leader and Climate Champion, said: “Climate change is not a problem for the future, it’s a very urgent problem that needs addressing now. With this in mind, please try to attend our Climate and Carbon Conversations, and encourage friends, relatives and colleagues to have their say as well. We’ve always stressed that tackling the problem will be a team effort and we want to bring as many people who live or work in Wrexham together as we possibly can who are keen to make a difference.”

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Environment, said: “It’s a space where everyone’s views and ideas are welcome and somewhere to share knowledge, innovative ideas, and best practice around how to reduce our carbon and lessen the impacts of climate change. The conversations are open to all and everyone will be respectful of the views of others. Please bring an open mind and a keen interest in working together in addressing climate change. “

What’s the conversation about?

To guide us we ask people to suggest a different theme each time but for this first meeting we would like to focus on local transport and travel so prepare your ideas, thoughts and suggestions for how we can all reduce the carbon emissions as a result of how we move around for those every day, shorter, local journeys.

When and where are the conversations?

The conversations will take place virtually, every 3 months on the first Wednesday of the month starting on August 2, 2023 from 4.30-5.30pm – however, you can join at any time within that hour.

Join us and share your ideas, build meaningful connections, and work towards a more sustainable future for our communities – to take part email decarbonisation@wrexham.gov.uk or call 01978 729616 and we will send you the link to the meeting and add you to the mailing list.

If you can’t attend, let us know and we will make sure you get the meeting notes and that your comments are included.

Be part of the positive change that we can create together!
