Members of the executive board have supported the creation of a Joint Member/Officer Working Group on the Cost of Living Crisis, made up of 10 Elected Members and politically balanced which will be meeting within two weeks. The purpose of the group is to jointly support residents given the significant rise in the cost of living crisis.
Leader of the Council Mark Pritchard and Lead Member for Finance said, These are very challenging times and I am pleased that we have set up this group. We will be making representations to UK and Welsh Government to lobby for financial support as part of the cost of living crisis and budget preparations for next year.”

David A Bithell Deputy Leader and Lead Member for housing said, “Not only are we facing a housing crisis we are facing significant challenges with the rise in energy costs. We have been meeting with Welsh Government every two weeks which has just started and now is the time to set up a group with all members of the council via their respective groups to work together to try and support our constituents.
“We are proactively working with Welsh Government to support and influence additional monies to local authorities during the winter period.
The creation of a cost of working group to look at and support local residents in the key areas of:
- Benefit maximisation
- Reducing costs on energy
- Warm places (already rolled out) start from October 7 in all library’s
- Fuel poverty
- Winter pressures
