A popular local business based in Tŷ Pawb’s market is celebrating after expanding to a full-size shop.

Managed by Wendy Scott, Stashbusters (part of Wintergreen CIC) is an art supplies charity shop – the first of its kind in Wrexham.

They accept donations of old arts and craft materials – anything that still has life in it!

Buyers can then purchase arts supplies at a discounted rate, with all profits donated to community art projects, delivered through Wintergreen CIC community enterprise.

Since first opening in Tŷ Pawb’s market last December, the shop has received a fantastic response from shoppers and has grown from strength to strength.

Stashbusters soon outgrew their original market stall and made the move to a larger unit at Tŷ Pawb in March this year.

Now, less than 9 months after they first opened, Stashbusters have expanded again! They’ve made the move to a full-size shop in Tŷ Pawb’s South Arcade – their largest premises so far.

Affordable prices and benefits for the whole community

“It’s not like other places,” Wendy explains. “We want to fill a gap in the market for supplying art and craft materials in a sustainable way and at affordable prices with wider benefits for the whole community.

“Since opening, we’ve been brilliantly supported from keen local crafters who want it be a long-lasting project. We’ve been able to work with Tŷ Pawb on a number of community art projects, with the help of their Community Connector officer. This included the National Eisteddfod of Wales’ “Harddu” project, where we invited local crafters to help create a display of knitted and crocheted flowers. Our project at was highlighted as a great example by the Eisteddfod team and we were even featured on the national news.

“Our new home in the South Arcade will give the space to grow the business even more – we have plenty of ideas for more exciting projects. We are thrilled to be joining a wonderful group of local businesses here in the arcade and we look forward to welcoming plenty of new shoppers.”

Lead Member with responsibility for Tŷ Pawb Cllr Hugh Jones said: “Many congratulations to Wendy. Stashbusters is a brilliantly innovative and creative model for a local shop – a perfect fit for Tŷ Pawb’s market and a fantastic example of how a new brand-new businesses can use Tŷ Pawb’s markets model as springboard to success.

“Stashbusters are the latest success story in a hugely positive chapter for Tŷ Pawb’s South Arcade. This year, two local businesses, Kasai Studios and Hair Do’s have joined the Arcade’s excellent existing traders – Gemini Blinds, Crystal Point Piercing, Hair By Renia alongside Wrexham Visitor Centre.

“RTO Clothing Alterations have also recently expanded into a larger shop in the South Arcade, having made the move from a stall in the main market hall, and we will soon be welcoming a brand new food & drink business who will be based in the cafe unit next to Visitor Centre at the end of the Arcade.”
