Do you know someone who can’t afford to access the internet? If you know someone who would benefit from having free mobile data, we can help.

How does it work?“A really positive initiative which we want to push and support”Who is eligible?Need help with the cost of living?

We’ve teamed up with Good Things Foundation’s National Databank and have a number of free mobile SIM cards to help digitally excluded members of the community get connected.

How does it work?

The National Databank is like a foodbank but for mobile data. It’s been specifically set up to support those who need it most, and the SIM cards have been kindly donated by Virgin Media, O2, Vodafone and Three.

Take a look at this short video to get an idea of how it works…

With the internet access having such an important role in today’s society we want to help Wrexham residents who are in need of some help to get access to the free data.

People who are experiencing data poverty or living on a low income can apply for their free mobile SIM card by contacting either Contact Wrexham or the Wellbeing Hub. (See below for eligibility criteria).

“A really positive initiative which we want to push and support”

Cllr Beverley Parry-Jones, Lead Member for Corporate Services and Anti-Poverty Champion, said: “This is a really positive initiative which we want to push and support as much as we can. People who can’t access the internet miss out on valuable social connections with loved ones, they miss out on being able to find useful information easily, and it can also affect their skills and development.

“With affordability being one of the main reasons why someone can be digitally excluded, we encourage eligible people to come forward to claim the free mobile data on offer by contacting Contact Wrexham or the Wellbeing Hub.”

Who is eligible?

To qualify for a freemobile SIM card, the applicant needs be over 18 years old and come from a low income household

  • AND/OR have no access or insufficient access to the internet at home
  • AND/OR no or insufficient access to the internet when away from the home
  • AND/OR cannot afford their existing monthly contract or top up

Applicants will be asked to provide their name, address, and proof they come from a low income household, including details of ESA, Universal Credit, Pension Credit etc.

If this sounds like you, or someone you know, you can apply for free mobile SIM card by contacting either Contact Wrexham or the Wellbeing Hub.
