A great way to keep active
There are lots of ways to keep active, and at the start of a New Year you’ll often spot promotions for gym membership and intense-sounding exercise classes.
But, those aren’t the only ways to improve your fitness. Swimming offers a more relaxed setting and gives you the option of going at your own pace – whether that’s slow, fast, or somewhere in between!
Often, having to keep to a budget can make it trickier to stay consistent with exercise too – so knowing you can get access to fitness spaces at no cost could help with this.
Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, Health and Wellbeing said “We’re reminding people that these free swimming sessions take place at three of our Freedom Leisure centres across Wrexham County. This offers both those in the younger and older age groups the opportunity to boost their wellbeing through exercise regularly throughout the year”.
Richard Milne, Area Manager said “At Freedom Leisure we’re really proud to be able to support this initiative across all our swimming pools in Wrexham. We look forward to seeing more of our local community getting active and enjoying our fantastic facilities across the borough”.
Who can join the sessions?
If you’re age 16 and under, or aged 60 and over, and you are a Welsh resident then you’ll be eligible to access the sessions.
These are open, unguided sessions for anyone eligible – for those who can already swim.
If you’re looking to try out learning to swim for the first time, or to improve your confidence and technique, you can check which swimming lessons would be right for you instead. You can then sign up online or contact Freedom Leisure with any extra questions.

Accompanying parents, guardians or carers
Adult to child ratio
Children who are under 8 must be accompanied by an adult on a 2:1 basis. This means one paid adult can bring 2 under 8’s into the pool for these sessions.
Children 8 and over may enter the water by themselves only if they are able to swim without adult supervision.
Outside of the pool
Seating is available at all sites (the pools are only visible from the seating area at Waterworld and Gwyn Evans).
Refreshments are available at all sites (Costa café in Waterworld, coffee/vending machines at Chirk and Gwyn Evans) as well as free WiFi.
