We’re pleased to say that 9 areas in Wrexham have retained their Green Flag Status – the international mark of a quality park or green space.

Acton Park, Alyn Waters Country Park, Bellevue Park, Ponciau Banks Park, Ty Mawr Country Park and Wrexham Cemetery along with community award winners volunteer run Chirk Station, Maes Y Pant and Plas Pentwyn who have all achieved Green Flag Community Awards.

Now in its third decade, the Green Flag Award recognises well-managed parks and green spaces in 20 countries around the world.

Flags are awarded for areas that have excellent visitor facilities, high environmental standards and a commitment to delivery great quality green space.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Environment, said, “It’s once again a pleasure the hear this news and thanks must go to the staff and volunteers who are committed to ensuring the quality of our green spaces remains of a high quality.

“Our parks and open spaces continue to be valuable areas of natural beauty and we are committed to protect and maintain them to ensure residents and visitors can use them as places to relax and exercise.”

Record 280 parks receive Green Flag award

A record 280 parks and green spaces across the country have received the prestigious Green Flag Award and Green Flag Community Award – from country parks and formal gardens, to allotments, woodlands and churchyards.

In Wales, the awards scheme is run by Keep Wales Tidy.

Lucy Prisk, Green Flag Coordinator for Keep Wales Tidy said: “Free access to safe, high quality green space has never been more important. Our award-winning sites play a vital role in people’s mental and physical well-being, providing a haven for communities to come together, relax and enjoy nature.

“News that 280 parks and green spaces in Wales have achieved Green Flag Awards is testament to the hard work of hundreds of staff and volunteers. We’re delighted to be able to celebrate their success on the world stage.”

A full list of award winners can be found on the Keep Wales Tidy website.
