A local artist has beaten off international competition to win the Judges Prize at Tŷ Pawb’s new exhibition – Print International.
Rhi Moxon (on the right in the main photo) topped a list of entrants which included 85 artists from 8 different countries.
The awards were announced at the opening event of the exhibition, held on Friday evening in front of a packed gallery at Wrexham’s multi-award winning arts, markets and community facility.
Prizes were awarded in six categories altogether on the night (see below for full list of winners). The Judges Prize was the final award to be announced. The panel was made up of three judges: John Coe, Editor, Pressing Matters Magazine; Luci Melegari, Co- Founder of Print International & Director of Visual Arts at Coleg Cambria Yale, and Jonathan Le Vay, Curator, Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
“Thrilled, shocked and overwhelmed!”
“Rhi Moxon said: “I was absolutely thrilled, shocked and overwhelmed to be awarded the Judges’ Prize at the fantastic Print International exhibition opening on Friday evening at Tŷ Pawb and I’m just now processing the whole thing.
“I’m so grateful for this opportunity to exhibit these works in their homecoming show and as always, thankful to be part of such a thriving and supportive creative community here in North Wales; especially the fantastic printmaking hub that is The Regional Print Centre.
“I can’t wait to call in for a second, third and fourth visit to this show over the next couple of months and soak in all the brilliant printmaking that’s on display. If you’re in the area, I implore you to call in and take a look!”
“The exhibition’s curator, Karen Whittingham, Pam Newall and the fantastic team at Tŷ Pawb have done an amazing job, and I’m so so grateful to be a small part of such a wonderful exhibition!”
“This could be the biggest print exhibition in Wales”
Exhibition Curator, Tŷ Pawb’s Karen Whittingham, said: “We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the response we’ve had for this exhibition since we sent out the open call for entries in June. We had over 400 images submitted from all over the world and we think this might actually be the biggest print exhibition in Wales!
“The opening night was a wonderful occasion a huge thanks to Adam Netting, our gallery technician, for all his work in putting the exhibition together, to all our exhibition and awards sponsors and of course to all the artists and to our judging panel.”

A live print studio in the gallery
Alongside Print International, artist Pam Newall has collaborated with Tŷ Pawb and Oswestry’s Designs in Mind to develop a live print studio in the gallery. Under the title Make Print the studio will create print designs that will feature on products that will be sold through Designs in Mind’s JOLT and Siop//Shop at Tŷ Pawb.
As part of Make Print, Pam Newall has also curated an archive of prints and flyers which represent a specific era in the 1970’s. The archive has been generously loaned from the Bradford Print Studio by Dr Robert Galeta, Lecturer, and Pam Brooks, Lecturer in Critical and Contextual Studies, at Bradford School of Art.
- Print International and Make Print run from November 16 until February 1 2020.
- During Print International there will be a number of public events, including ‘Print and Prosecco’ evenings and the annual Print Symposium hosted by Regional Print Centre. More information about these events will be released soon.
