A local bus service is due to receive timetable enhancements, creating more frequent services to and from Wrexham city centre.

Service 17, provided by Wrexham & Prestige Taxis Ltd currently operates three days per week.  However, from Monday, February 17, 2025 the service will run from Monday to Saturday with hourly daytime departures from Wrexham bus station.  The route taken will remain unchanged, providing enhanced connections to Stansty, Plas Coch Retail Park, Moss and The Lodge.

Councillor David A Bithell, deputy leader and lead member for housing and climate change said: “Our commitment to invest in, and improve, local bus services continues with the timetable upgrade made to service 17. This will not only provide local residents with better access to the city centre, it will also provide an extra daytime service to access Plas Coch Retail Park, which the public are requesting from the feedback that we receive.

“Wrexham Council has now invested £400,000 over two years so far, to deliver additional journeys during evenings and Sundays, which enhance the existing bus network. Last year an extra evening journey was added to service 146 between Wrexham and Whitchurch, for the benefit of villages including Marchwiel, Bangor On Dee, Overton and Penley. We remain committed to improving the local bus network to offer a viable alternative to having to make every journey by car. Timetable information and journey planning options can be found at www.traveline.cymru”.

Councillor Beverley Parry-Jones, Elected Member for Bryn Cefn ward, said “I am absolutely delighted with this news for local residents, who can now benefit from their local bus service that has been restored to its previous frequency of the past.  Not only does it provide a regular daytime service, but operating six days per week it will make journeys for leisure or shopping, and accessing appointments much more convenient”.

Mark Coates, managing director, Wrexham & Prestige Taxis Ltd, added: “We are pleased to extend our working relationship with Wrexham Council. We have delivered local bus services on behalf of the council for over 10 years, and the forthcoming timetable improvements will ensure that more communities can have greater access to essential everyday services and facilities”.
