It’s that time of year again…residents can now pay for their garden waste to be collected from September 2023-August 2024.

  • Please pay online where possible
  • New stickers for 2023/24
  • No cash or cheque payments
  • I don’t want to renew the service – will you remove my garden waste bin?
  • What can I do with my garden waste if I do not want to pay for the collection service?

Renewals for the next service year are now open, so you can visit wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste to make your payment online. It’s the quickest and easiest way, and you get to do it at a time that suits you. Just make sure you’re signed up in plenty of time to avoid missing any collections when the service begins in September.

The charge for 2023/24 is £35 per green bin per year, and the service runs from Monday, September 4, 2023 until Friday, August 30, 2024. We will continue to review the service in the future.

If you paid for garden waste collections last year (2022/23), your green bin(s) will continue to be collected until September 1.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead member for Environment, said, “It was a very difficult decision to make, but we’re increasing the garden waste collection charge to £35 per green bin for the upcoming service year. We had hoped to freeze the price of the service for a further year, but unfortunately this won’t be possible. The increase is necessary to allow us to continue to deliver this service and to protect our key front line services as well. We’re committed to keeping the charge as low as possible and the £35 cost keeps us as one of the lowest when compared to other local authorities in England and Wales.”

Please pay online where possible

The easiest way to pay for the service is online at wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste.

Any residents who would like a bit of support to make an online payment can visit Contact Wrexham based in Wrexham Library, or you can drop into your local housing estate office. Just let our staff know you want to pay for your garden waste collections and they will be able to help you through the process.

You must have an email address to subscribe online. If you don’t have one you can call Streetscene on 01978 298989 to make a card payment.

New stickers for 2023/24

Everyone who signs up will receive a sticker pack with a new, light red coloured sticker, which should be displayed on your bin lid from September.

We’re asking residents to NOT put their new sticker on their bin lid until the new service starts in September. Please continue to display your 2022/23 sticker until September 1 and (if possible) remove it before you apply your new sticker.

No cash or cheque payments

In previous years, we’ve had a number of customers who attempted to pay for the service by sending cash and cheques to us. We must reiterate that we are unable to accept these payments.

I don’t want to renew the service – will you remove my garden waste bin?

Any unwanted garden waste bins can be removed on request. Once requested it may take a number of weeks for the bin to be collected. In the meantime, make sure your bin remains empty, accessible, but not left out causing an obstruction.

It may be worth keeping hold of your old garden waste bin for now because, if your garden waste bin has been removed and you change your mind in future, there is a charge for a new one.

What can I do with my garden waste if I do not want to pay for the collection service?

You can take your garden waste to one of the household waste recycling centres (free of charge). Alternatively, you could compost garden waste at home. Take a look at Wales Recycles’ ‘how to set up home composting’ guide which has some useful information.
