Some of the recyclable plastic we found in your general waste

Plastic Recycling

Many of us in Wrexham are recycling our plastic bottles, plastic pots, plastic tubs and plastic trays in our recycling containers every week.

Let’s hit 70 per-centPlease remove any residue

But a large number of items that should be getting recycled are still finding their way into our general waste, and this is a big problem.

The image above shows roughly a weeks’ worth of recyclable plastic we found in your general waste at one of our recycling centres.

All these items could’ve easily been recycled. The people who didn’t recycle them could’ve enjoyed the benefit of extra space in their bins, as well as having their recycling collected every week, which general waste isn’t.

We can and need to do better.

Let’s hit 70 per-cent

If we all take responsibility for our own recycling, then Wrexham can claim we’re doing our bit for the environment.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Every bit of recycling – no matter how small it seems – makes a difference. The pictures in this article show there’s still plenty of room for us to improve, but we’ll need to work together.

“So before you throw something in the bin, check whether it’s something you can recycle. This is how we can all improve and play our part to hit our 70% recycling target by 2024/25.”

Please remove any residue

To ensure that your plastics are of a high quality when you recycle them, we ask you to remove any food or drink residue from them.

We’re not asking you to spend ages doing this…a quick rinse in your used dishwater is usually enough to get rid of any excess, and doing this means your items get recycled into much better quality products.
