Thanks for Rights of the Child event

Earlier this month, our Youth Service held an event at Wrexham Memorial Hall to mark the 30 year anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – an international human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children.

The event was run with the help of Senedd Yr Ifanc, Wrexham’s Youth Parliament, who wanted to celebrate 30 years of the UNCRC – as all of their work stems from Article 12 of the Convention, which requires that the views of children and young people be respected, and that they have the right to give their opinion on issues which affect them.

A number of organisations came along to take part in the event, including Wrexham’s Care Council, our Play team, Inside Out Counselling, the Welsh Youth Parliament, St John Ambulance, Scouts, Guides and many more.

Entertainment included circus skills training from the Play team, plus a close-up magic trick workshop – as well as live music from Abstract.

More than 200 people attended the free evening.

Caroline Bennett, Participation Co-ordinator for Senedd Yr Ifanc, said: “The Senedd yr Ifanc worked really hard, and this showed – we had lots of lovely feedback and thank you’s from organisations and individuals.

“Senedd Yr Ifanc would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the event.”

Emma Jones, of Chirk Guides, said: “A massive thanks you to everyone who helped with this event, my guides had an amazing time, and well done Tricia, Caroline and everyone at Senedd Yr Ifanc.”

Donna Dickenson, Head of Prevention and Support at Wrexham Council, said: “The atmosphere was brilliant, and it was great to see everyone having such a good time.  What a lovely celebration.

“A big thank you both to Senedd Yr Ifanc for all of their hard – as per usual, they did themselves proud! What a team!”
