Some of these architectural features stretch right back through Wrexham’s past as a market town, all the way back to the 16th and 17th centuries.

Given the architectural interest and quality of some of these buildings, and the more apparent historical landmarks like the Butchers Market and St Giles Church, we have to do what we can to look after the town’s historic character.

The Conservation Area

We already have plans in place for some key buildings in the town centre, as part of a National Lottery-backed plan.

But we’re also looking at the whole conservation area, and how it can help us to maintain the general appearance and historic character of the town centre.

The Wrexham Town Centre Conservation Area aims to preserve and enhance the special character and appearance of the town centre, and we’ve got a plan in place to help us back that aim.

That plan is being updated and we would like to hear your views on the area, to highlight any issues and concerns and help identify opportunities and priorities for the next 10 years.

What can we do?

We want to know what your views are on the conservation area, and how we can put it to good use.

We need to find out how important you think the conservation area is, and whether you think its boundaries need changing.

What are the positives? What are the negatives? What more needs to be done?

As part of the consultation, we’re running a survey on our Your Voice survey website.

To take part in the survey, just click this link.

The whole survey won’t take more than a few minutes to complete – so if you think the character of historic Wrexham is important, it’s well worth your time taking a few minutes to take part.

“Don’t miss out”

Cllr David Kelly, Lead Member for Environment and Planning, said: “There are some incredible assets in Wrexham town centre which contribute to the town’s historical character and appearance. The Town Centre Conservation Area Character Assessment and Management Plan will help us to preserve and enhance this special character.

“Obviously, it’s very important we know what the public’s views are with regard to that plan, so I would encourage anyone who has an interest in the town’s history and heritage to spare a few minutes and take part.”
