The merits of electric cars are getting more and more popular as technology improves and the environmental – and financial – benefits become more obvious.
You might have seen that we recently installed a series of charging points at car parks across the county borough.

A recent cost comparison tallying up the difference between electric vehicles and normal mileage found that from January 14 to February 17, journeys which could have cost more than £400 in business miles, if claimed back, ended up just costing £23.54 in electricity.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “At a time in which we’re having to make cuts and look for efficiencies anywhere we can, the fact that we’re able to cut down on business mileage thanks to the electric cars is very welcome news.
“Obviously, we want to expand our use of electric cars and ensure staff are able to make more use of them – as well as helping us to save money internally, it’s also far better for the environment.
“While electric vehicles might not yet be completely viable for longer journeys, they’re well suited to the short journeys staff need to take, and the more we can expand this within the council, the better.”
