Work to improve the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Wrexham will get underway this week, resulting in some roadworks and minor traffic diversions.
Cabling to connect EV chargepoints to the electricity supply are being laid in the vicinity of council-run carparks in Market Street, Ty Pawb and Crown Buildings, as well as beneath the road in Market Street and Holt Street.
The work is being carried out by SP Energy Networks and is expected to be complete by February 5.
The works are part of an ongoing programme to increase provision of high quality and reliable EV chargepoints across the county which is part-funded by Welsh Government.
Wrexham Council is working with partners Costelloes to increase the network of publically accessible chargepoints, which includes some higher-speed chargers at Market Street car park in the city centre.
Councillor David A Bithell, Wrexham Council’s Deputy Leader and Climate Champion, said: “There will be roadworks and some minor diversions, but the installation should be complete by early February and will result in more EV charging points across the city centre.
“Electric cars are cleaner and greener than petrol and diesel vehicles, and we want to encourage their use in the city – along with walking, cycling and other green modes of transport.
“Electric vehicles are becoming more common, so it’s important that Wrexham keeps pace and provides more charging facilities
“We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while the work in ongoing.”
