Pupils from two Wrexham schools became singing stars by taking part in the Young Voices concerts at Manchester Arena last month.

Pupils from Ysgol Deiniol sang at the January 29 concert whilst Ysgol Acrefair were part of the concert the following day on January 30.

Young Voices concerts have taken place for over 20 years and are made up from schools all over the UK. The concerts are led by famous singers, so not only do the children get to sing in a spectacular venue, they get to enjoy doing so with celebrities.

They are the largest children’s choir concerts in the world with between 5,000-8,000 youngsters taking part in each concert!

Kevin Baugh, Headteacher of Ysgol Deiniol, said: “We have been going to Young Voices for four years now and the children thoroughly enjoy performing in front of thousands of people at such a prestigious venue. Our school choir are renowned throughout the area for performing in front of residents at nursing homes during the Christmas period, in our local church and also to raise funds for Nightingale House Hospice.”

Rebecca Turner Headteacher of Ysgol Acrefair, said: “This was our first time at Young Voices. The children and staff had a wonderful time singing together with over 7,000 children, professional musicians, singers and dancers.”

The children practiced their singing and dance moves over many weeks with their teacher Mrs Martin, and are very proud of themselves.

Lili-Beth from Year 5 at Ysgol Acrefair, said: “It was amazing; I couldn’t believe we were actually there!”

One of the famous faces the children got to sing with was Tony Hadley, the lead singer from the group Spandau Ballet, and he Tweeted how much he enjoyed the concerts.

Mr Baugh added: “I’m very proud of Mrs Manuel and Mrs Guy and our school choir, but also happy for the children that they had this fantastic opportunity to perform in front of so many people.”
