People are being invited to attend a film screening at the Wellbeing Hub in May, which will help to encourage better communication and conversations around dementia.
The screening takes place 10am-12pm on Monday, May 15, at the Wellbeing Hub at Crown Buildings on Chester Street, and attendees will get to watch the thought-provoking film ‘The World Turned Upside Down’ along with Wrexham Council’s PCP Dementia Co-ordinator Kate Evans.
‘The World Turned Upside Down’ is a play that was staged in Exeter in January 2022, and comes from a large dementia research project called IDEAL, based at the University of Exeter.
The film shows the play itself, but also the process of creating it. You will get to see footage from rehearsals, thoughts from people with lived experience of dementia, and reflections from the actors and people involved in the play.
You will be invited to reflect on why and how conversations can go badly or work well, as well as what helps to maintain good conversations. Kate will pause the film at select points to discuss thoughts and opinions for various scenarios carried out by the actors.
Refreshments are also being provided, with tea and coffee available on arrival.

“It’s a learning curve for all involved”
Kate, said: “I’m passionate in supporting citizens living with dementia, as well as the people who are by their sides through the experience. Everyone’s situations are different and there isn’t a right or wrong, it’s a learning curve for all involved with living alongside dementia.
“Opening up to one another and sharing experience is all very important and can make us realise we have much support around us in what can feel isolating at times.”

Cllr John Pritchard, Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said: “Having good, effective communication around dementia plays a big part in diagnosis, so having these conversations with the people around us is really important. ‘The World Turned Upside Down’ is fantastic, and it shows how there are many situations where the outcome often relies on what is communicated, and how.
