The purpose of the free workshops is to support residents in improving nutrition, cooking confidence, and overall wellbeing.

Could your organisation host a free workshop?

Community venues, schools, and clubs across the county are invited to host these sessions for their members between July 2026 and February 2027.

Workshops are intended to be open to all age groups (so there are no age limits, as long as children are accompanied by an adult) and group sizes for each session will be between 6 to 12 people.

Cllr John Pritchard, chair of cost of living member and officer working group, said: “This fantastic initiative will bring sessions directly into community settings, making nutrition education more approachable to residents who can then use that knowledge in their day to day lives.”

Wrexham Food Partnership are funding the programme, meaning that it can be delivered at no cost to hosts or participants.

With the ongoing pressure of the cost of living, many residents are looking for practical ways to stretch their food budgets without compromising on health.

The workshops that have been created aim to help people save money while eating better; offering realistic, affordable tips for planning, and making everyday meals.

What will happen at the workshops?

The programme includes two types of workshops:

1 hour Nutrition Workshop – an engaging, informative session with tips and advice for healthy eating on a budget.
2.5-hour Practical Cooking Session – a hands on class where NHS Community Dietitians will guide participants prepare simple, nutritious, low cost meals

Everyone who takes part in a workshop will also get a free bag of shopping and a recipe book, to help them continue to cook healthily at home.

Venue suitability

If your venue doesn’t have a full kitchen area to use, not to worry! The team will just need suitable hand washing and washing up facilities (plus access to a fridge would be a bonus), but will provide any equipment needed.
