Continued investment is planned in 2026, with new charging infrastructure being delivered in more rural communities.
The continued expansion of Wrexham’s public EV charging network is an important step towards reducing carbon emissions from transport, which remains one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions in Wales.
By providing convenient and reliable charging facilities across both urban and rural communities, Wrexham Council is helping remove barriers to electric vehicle ownership and supporting residents, businesses and visitors to make the switch to cleaner transport.
The investment contributes directly to Wrexham County Borough Council’s decarbonisation objectives by encouraging the uptake of low-emission vehicles and helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels. It also supports improved local air quality and contributes to a healthier environment for residents and future generations.
The programme aligns with Welsh Government ambitions to achieve a net zero public sector by 2030 and to develop a comprehensive, accessible EV charging network across Wales.
Ensuring that charging infrastructure is available in town centres, residential areas, visitor destinations and rural communities helps support a fair transition to low-carbon transport, ensuring that more people can benefit from the move to electric vehicles regardless of where they live.
Looking ahead, the Council will continue to work with partners to expand charging infrastructure, improve accessibility for residents without off-street parking, and support the transition to cleaner, greener travel throughout the county borough.

Eligible residents can benefit from a 20% off charging discount, more information can be found on the Costelloes website.
Chargers range from 7.4kW through to 240kW ultra-rapid chargers, these can be located on the Zapmap website.
There are over 60 charging locations across the county borough where charging infrastructure is now available, including:

- Overton
- Holt
- Rossett
- Ruabon
- Rhosllanerchrugog
- Coedpoeth
- Brymbo
- Gwersyllt
- Johnstown
- Acrefair
- Cefn Mawr
- Penycae
- Glyn Ceiriog
- Trevor
- Llay
- Pentre Broughton
Alternatively, public charging is available in:

- Residential areas
- Visitor destinations
- Transport hubs
- Country parks
- Industrial estates
- Leisure centres
We are working to be able to support residents who do not have a driveway to transition to EV chargers via a pavement gully.
