Wrexham Council’s fostering team, which helps co-ordinate and support foster carers across the county borough, has received a positive report from inspectors.

A newly publish report by Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) says the team is staffed by well-trained employees, and provides good support and training opportunities to local foster carers.

It also says the team has made significant progress in recruiting permanent social workers, and has clear goals and objectives.

Councillor Rob Walsh, Lead Member for Children’s Social Care, said: “Foster carers make a huge difference to the lives of young people and children…often in their hour of need. So it’s vital that we provide them with the best support we can.

“Our fostering team is lucky to have passionate and professional staff who are dedicated to supporting foster carers, and this report is testament to their hard work. They do a fantastic job.”

CIW is the statutory body that monitors standards across social services in Wales.
Inspectors visited the team earlier this year, spending time with staff and talking with foster carers about their experiences.

Cllr Walsh added: “We’re committed to supporting foster carers in Wrexham, and we’re always looking to recruit more people to fostering.

“If you want to know more, please get in touch. It’s an incredibly rewarding thing to do, and we can offer lots of help and incentives – including training, payment and even a 75% council tax discount.

“Please get in touch…the team would love to hear from you.”
