Over the last few months funding secured from UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the Welsh Government Transforming Towns Fund, Safer Streets Fund and Active Travel Fund has allowed us to make High Street and Wrexham City Centre more inviting and pedestrian friendly.

As part of these improvements from Monday 14th April there will be one point of entry only to the City Centre.

This will be via Yorke Street with access provided between 6am and 11.30 am daily.

A rise and fall bollard will prohibit access between the hours of 11:30am and 06:00am for all vehicles, except those on an automatic approval list. *An ANPR Camera will be used to identify vehicles registered on the list.

Vehicles will be required to leave the City Centre by 11:30am unless granted specific dispensation to park. Failure to do so will leave the driver liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice.

Further details and FAQ’s are available on our website

Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration Cllr Nigel Williams said “Securing funding from the various sources has meant we were able to invest a significant amount of money on public realm improvements for the High Street area.

“Like any significant project of this size there has been disruption caused, but at all times we have attempted to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Drivers will need to understand and adhere to the new rules in place in order to keep the High Street and Wrexham City Centre a pedestrian friendly destination.

“With the final elements of the transformation due to be finished over the next few weeks I look forward to seeing how the improvements benefit the area.”
