Wrexham Council is planning to extend opening hours at Wrexham bus station following continued growth in bus use and ongoing investment in local transport services.
Security cover is due to be extended from 6pm to 10pm Monday to Saturday, alongside additional cleaning to improve the appearance of the bus station both inside and out.
Toilet facilities opening times will also extend from 5th May 2026
Wrexham Council is also looking at utilising new information boards and office spaces within the building as part of future development.
The improvements follow increased bus usage after Wrexham Council’s investment of £650,000 into local bus services since 2023.
Thanks to this investment, new routes and extended evening services have helped drive increased use of bus services across the borough, generating over 150,000 additional passenger journeys.
Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Strategic Transport, said: “We have worked hard over the last 4 years to increase bus patronage in our communities, with new routes and evening services which have proved successful.”
“This has led to an increase in bus users by around 42.6%, which goes a long way to support both our objectives we set out for better transport links in Wrexham.”
“As part of the next step and listening to feedback, we have agreed to increase security from 6pm to 10pm each working day, along with additional cleaning and the toilets remaining open, this is to provide reassurance to those travelling to and from Wrexham city centre at night.”
The planned improvements are aimed at enhancing the overall environment at the bus station for passengers, while supporting the council’s wider ambition to improve transport links and encourage greater use of public transport.
The improvements are planned to take place from 5th May 2026.
