Wrexham Library is inviting people with connections to Wrexham to help uncover the story of the area’s former cinemas and theatres by sharing photographs, documents, memorabilia and memories.

The Old Cinemas and Theatres of Wrexham Community Call-Out Day will take place at Wrexham Library on Wednesday 14 October 2026, from 9.30am until 4.30pm.

People are encouraged to bring along material connected to Wrexham’s cinemas and theatres or the people associated with them. This could include photographs, programmes, tickets, posters, documents or other treasured items.

People can also share their memories of visiting, working at or performing in these venues.

During the drop-in event, Wrexham Library staff and members of the People’s Collection Wales team will be on hand to meet visitors, hear their stories and scan photographs and documents using the library’s new Digital Heritage Station equipment supplied by People’s Collection Wales.

Organisers hope the event will bring to light personal stories and images that may not appear in official records, helping to build a fuller picture of Wrexham’s cultural and social history.

Councillor John Pritchard, Lead Member for Corporate and Customer Services said, “Wrexham has a rich cultural history, and our cinemas and theatres have played an important part in the lives of generations of local people.

So much of that history is held in people’s own memories, photographs and treasured items, and this event is a great opportunity to make sure those stories aren’t lost.

I’d encourage anyone with memories or material connected to Wrexham’s cinemas to come along, share what they have and help us build an even richer picture of our local history.”

Berian Elias, Community Engagement Officer at People’s Collection Wales said, “Community collection days like this help to safeguard stories, images, and memories that might otherwise never appear in traditional archives, and they are essential for building a more complete and personal picture of Wrexham’s cultural history. We look forward to supporting Wrexham Library in revealing the city’s rich heritage.”

No appointment is needed. Visitors can drop into Wrexham Library at any time between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
