Advance notice of temporary closure to vehicles – Charles Street and Chester Street

As our contractor Griffiths approaches the final phases of works on City Centre improvements and in order to join the new road surface from Chester Street to High Street, they will need to temporarily close the roads leading to the junction between Chester Street, Charles Street and High Street for the works to be carried out safely.

This will start on Monday 7th October and end on Friday 25th October.

Chester Street will be closed to all vehicles from the junction with Bank Street towards Charles Street/High Street and there will be no access to vehicles beyond this junction to Charles Street/High Street until the works have been completed. Access to pedestrians will remain open throughout this phase of the works.

For business deliveries, a  provision of a drop-off point will be made available at the eastern end of High St. Griffiths staff will be available and happy to help by providing a porter service from this location to individual businesses. Refuse/waste collections will be at both ends of Chester Street (i.e. as far as the Bank Street junction) and at the exit of Charles Street.

We appreciate that this is a busy area of the city and we apologise in advance for any temporary disruption caused. Griffiths will be working as safely, efficiently and to the highest standards possible in order to complete the works as soon as possible

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration said “This is an exciting and pivotal time for the works in our city centre. “Unfortunately these big projects can’t be completed without some disruption, however our contractors aim to keep disruption to a minimum, and complete the works as soon as possible.”
