  • Thanks for Rights of the Child event

Thanks for Rights of the Child event

Earlier this month, our Youth Service held an event at Wrexham Memorial Hall to mark the 30 year anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) – an international human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children.

The event was run with the help of Senedd Yr Ifanc, Wrexham’s Youth Parliament, who wanted to celebrate 30 years of the UNCRC – as all of their work stems from Article 12 of the Convention, which requires that the views of children and young people be respected, and that they have the right to give their opinion on issues which affect them.

A number of organisations came along to take part in the event, including Wrexham’s Care Council, our Play team, Inside Out Counselling, the Welsh Youth Parliament, St John Ambulance, Scouts, Guides and many more.

As we face further financial challenges there’s going to be some difficult decisions to make.

If you haven’t already, please read the Shaping the Future of Wrexham Library Service document and make sure that you take the opportunity to have your say.

Shân Cooper, Libraries Lead, said: “Public Libraries are important, so it’s crucial that we hear from as many local people as possible.

“I am delighted that so many have filled in the consultation forms and come to our meetings, but there is still time for those who haven’t yet had the opportunity to have their say.

“I encourage as many people as possible to go online or pick up a paper copy of the consultation paper from their local library, and let us know what they think.”

We are encouraged that a number of local schools and colleges are expressing an interest in Live Music Showcase and several of them will be performing in our concerts during 2020.

“We are also thrilled to welcome the pupils from Moreton Hall School on December 5 who will perform a concert of music of both choral and instrumental pieces.”
