There’s a completely new way for young people to have their say on the things that matter to them in Wales.
The Welsh Youth Parliament is a platform to amplify young voices with 60 young people aged 11-18 set to become Welsh Youth Parliament Members. Young people will elect 40 of them by voting in the election in November 2018. The remaining 20 will be elected by partner organisations.

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, Lead Member for Youth Services and Anti-Poverty said: “This is a fantastic way for young people in Wrexham to have their say on decisions that are made in Wales. It is the perfect opportunity to encourage young people to find an interest in politics, or even start their own career in politics.
“I would urge everyone aged between 11-18 to get involved and register to vote in the Welsh Youth Parliament elections.”
Know someone who would make a good Welsh Youth Parliament member?
If you live in Wales, or get your education in Wales and are aged between 11-18, you can put yourself forward to become a Welsh Youth Parliament Member.
As a Welsh Youth Parliament Member you will identify, debate and raise awareness of the issues important to young people across Wales.

Students from Wrexham’s Glyndŵr University have created something legendary as part of the latest exhibition at Wrexham Museum!
The Museum’s ‘Land Of Legends‘ exhibition invites visitors to set off on a quest to rediscover the magic of the Mabinogion, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table!

“It is an excellent opportunity for future professional animators to commit to finish a project within a deadline and to take on the responsibility of being part of a public event.
“Students have been very motivated and have made the theme of Myths and Legends their own in each of the films produced within the final module of level 4. This opportunity makes a difference in their first year experience in the Animation Degree at the School of Creative Arts.”

Our Welfare Rights Unit has been awarded the Advice Quality Standard (AQS) which is awarded to organisations who provide independent advice to members of the public.
Organisations that hold the standard have demonstrated that they are easily accessible, effectively managed, and employ staff with the skills and knowledge to meet the needs of their clients.
The Unit has been available since 1996 and its role is to ensure people get all the benefits they’re entitled to, with particular emphasis on targeted Social Care service users. The Unit also has a number of other projects, providing casework and training to certain groups and citizens of north-east Wales. Targeted clients are assisted with information, advice, claims, challenging decisions and appeal representation.
“£8 million plus”
The unit provides around 3,000 people with a full casework service per year and has managed to secure government social security payment of £8million plus for them.
Clients helped include those entering or living in residential care and adult mental health service users(comma or semi-colon). Cancer patients as referred by health professionals such as clinical nurse specialists, carers and Families First funded services. Staff are also happy to help anyone who lives or works in the county borough who call the Unit’s Benefit Advice Line (01978 298255, Monday – Friday 9.30 – 12.00). In a small number of cases there can be a charge for the service; please ring for further information about this.
“Committed and conscientious staff”
Cllr Mark Pritchard, Leader of the Council, said: “We are very pleased that our staff have worked hard to achieve this Quality Standard. It shows that those who use our service in Wrexham that staff are working to the highest possible professional standards.

I’m sure they will continue to maintain these high standards over the course of the next year to make sure everyone gets the benefits they are entitled to. Congratulations and well done to everyone involved, you should be proud of your achievements.”
The AQS is awarded by the national umbrella group, the Advice Services Alliance and their Director, Lindsey Poole said: “The AQS is a tough benchmark to achieve, particularly in challenging times for the sector and our clients and we offer our congratulations to staff in Wrexham Welfare Rights for so clearly making the grade.”

We’re trying to find out just what’s available or isn’t available, how do you access free sanitary products, do you even know if your school provides them?
It’s believed that not having access to free sanitary products whilst in school is not only causing embarrassment to pupils but it may affect them to the point that they actually miss school. Is this your experience?
Please take the time to let us know – the survey is quick to complete and will helps us findout how many of you are affected or are caused embarrassment when you have your period in school time.
The results of the survey will be reported to one of our Scrutiny Committees in the autumn and it will be a public report.

Entries to our Calendar competition have started to come in and they’re looking really good.
The judges are getting really excited and are hoping to see a selection of photos all taken right here in the county borough. And why not, we do have three of the Wonders of Wales, two national trust properties and the magnificent aqueduct at Ponty.
There’s also our country parks, unique and brilliant architecture in our churches and old buildings, bridges, canals and of course the many waterways that flow through the county borough. And let’s not forget the events we’ve had over the past few months – St David’s Day Parade, Play Day, Under the Arches or the RAF 100 celebrations.
The closing date for entries is the 23 October so there’s still plenty of time to get out and get snapping.
The images can be taken at any time of the year by an amateur photographer but they must be of somewhere in the county borough. 13 images will be included in the 2019 Calendar – one for the front cover and one for each month of the year. Please bear in mind the size of the images printed will be 295mm x 295mm and images should be cropped to this size or large enough to be cropped to this size.
Good luck!

Take a look at the slideshow below for just some of the sights you might not have spotted.

Some of these architectural features stretch right back through Wrexham’s past as a market town, all the way back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
Given the architectural interest and quality of some of these buildings, and the more apparent historical landmarks like the Butchers Market and St Giles Church, we have to do what we can to look after the town’s historic character.
The Conservation Area
We already have plans in place for some key buildings in the town centre, as part of a National Lottery-backed plan.
But we’re also looking at the whole conservation area, and how it can help us to maintain the general appearance and historic character of the town centre.
The Wrexham Town Centre Conservation Area aims to preserve and enhance the special character and appearance of the town centre, and we’ve got a plan in place to help us back that aim.
That plan is being updated and we would like to hear your views on the area, to highlight any issues and concerns and help identify opportunities and priorities for the next 10 years.
What can we do?
We want to know what your views are on the conservation area, and how we can put it to good use.
We need to find out how important you think the conservation area is, and whether you think its boundaries need changing.
What are the positives? What are the negatives? What more needs to be done?
As part of the consultation, we’re running a survey on our Your Voice survey website.
The whole survey won’t take more than a few minutes to complete – so if you think the character of historic Wrexham is important, it’s well worth your time taking a few minutes to take part.
“Don’t miss out”
Cllr David Kelly, Lead Member for Environment and Planning, said: “There are some incredible assets in Wrexham town centre which contribute to the town’s historical character and appearance. The Town Centre Conservation Area Character Assessment and Management Plan will help us to preserve and enhance this special character.
“Obviously, it’s very important we know what the public’s views are with regard to that plan, so I would encourage anyone who has an interest in the town’s history and heritage to spare a few minutes and take part.”
