Wrexham Library’s Clip Corner is now giving visitors access to a unique collection of Welsh broadcasting and film history.
Part of the Wales Broadcast Archive project led by The National Library of Wales, the Clip Corner allows people to explore a wide range of digitised film, video and audio from across Wales.
While some content is available online through Clip Cymru, and just over 1000 clips accessible from home, the wider archive can only be viewed at selected Clip Corner locations, such as Wrexham Library.
The collection includes more than 400,000 items of radio and television material dating back to the 1930’s, alongside historic films dating back to 1898.
Councillor Beverley-Parry Jones, Lead Member with responsibility for Libraries said “We are delighted to see the Clip Corner available at Wrexham Library. It gives people the chance to discover and enjoy a fascinating part of Wales’s history right here in their local library and helps bring our shared heritage to life for residents and visitors alike.”
Councillor Paul Roberts, Lead Member with responsibility for Archives and Records said “The new Clip Corner is a welcome addition to Wrexham Library. It will help to preserve and share important archive material, giving people the chance to discover more about Wales’ broadcasting history and Wrexham’s place within it.”
More information on the Clip Corner can be found on The National Library of Wales website.
In order to access all of the available content, visitors will need to register for a free National Library readers ticket. This can be done at home on The National Library of Wales website, or during your visit to the library.
The Clip Corner is located on the first floor, with a lift available.
The Clip Corner is free to access during Wrexham Library opening hours, Monday – Friday 9am-6pm and Saturdays 9am-4pm, with no need to book.
Groups are advised to discuss dates, times and requirements with the library first if they would like to visit the Clip corner.
