Are you part of a community group or organisation that could provide a warm place for vulnerable individuals or families?
Wrexham Council has received funding of £64,000, which will be used to support all of Wrexham’s libraries and the Wellbeing Hub in providing warm spaces, as well as a small grants scheme for organisations and groups to apply for up to £5,000.
If you feel that your organisation or group could provide a warm space, you can email warmspaces@wrexham.gov.uk for more information and to register to receive an application pack for the winter 2024/25 funding.
What will the funding include?
Successful applications for funding will depend on what you are able to offer. For example, more funding will be available if you’re able to provide hot meals or evening/weekend opening.
Cllr Claire Lovett, chair of cost of living officer and member working group, said: “As we face the colder weather sets in, warm spaces will be increasingly appreciated by residents as somewhere welcoming to go to. If you are a group or organisation in Wrexham please consider applying for the grant to make life a little easier for people in your community.”
Cllr Beverley Parry-Jones, lead member with responsibility for anti-poverty, said: “We want to work with community groups and organisations to ensure there are plenty of places across the county borough where people can get warm. If any organisation or community group are able to provide a warm place this winter, we want to hear from you.”
What’s happening in libraries?
Libraries will be offering access to self-service hot drinks and whether you are a regular visitor or new to the library, you will be able to access:
- Wi-Fi
- Computers
- Daily newspaper
- Fiction and information books
- Library activities and events, majority our free

What’s happening at the Wellbeing Hub?
The Wellbeing Hub will also be providing a warm space and will be using their funding to provide tea, coffee and hot chocolate for anyone that is struggling through the winter months. You’ll be able to get warm and stay warm having a seat on the sofa and enjoy a selection of free board games, puzzles and public access iPads.
Wellbeing hub’s advisors will also be on hand to provide information on a variety of wellbeing services, which may be of benefit this winter including food provision, energy, data bank, counselling, mental health support, bereavement support, community groups and family support.
