During the Covid Pandemic in 2020 we acquired Grove House, a former Bed and Breakfast business premises, in order to ensure homeless people were not vulnerable and isolated during the lockdown. The first guests arrived in January 2021.

Since that time it’s become a successful 16 bed supported unit for residents that’s fully staffed 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Various support agencies visit daily or weekly and residents have access to courses to build their confidence to become independent and care for themselves before moving on.

Communities for work also attend to help support people back into work.

Over 240 residents have now successfully moved onto permanent accommodation or supported accommodation to meet their long term housing need.

Grove House is now a permanent facility

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Housing, said, “Grove House has shown that giving the correct information, advice and education to those who, for a variety of reasons, find themselves homeless can be key to future housing security.

“The premises is now a permanent facility and will no doubt see many more successful outcomes. The staff do a great job and I would like to thank them for all they do to ensure a smooth transition into permanent accommodation and a life away from homelessness.”
