The Wauns Carnival is a yearly community event founded in 2018. It brings thousands of people of all ages together; it raises community spirit and gives people something fun to look forward to.
Entry is currently free, and the organisers are hoping to keep it that way, as they appreciate the real world and understand the cost of living is rising.
They heavily rely on donations, and one of the easiest ways to support the carnival is to sign up to Wrexham’s Community Lottery, which allows you to pick a good cause and support it directly.
Sixty percent of the ticket goes directly to that cause, and makes a real difference to them.
And you could also win a prize! One of The Wauns Carnival supporters was lucky enough to win one of the smaller prizes of £250 recently.
The Wrexham Community Lottery supports many local groups and charities in and around Wrexham County Borough.
For The Wauns Carnival, the money raised through the lottery helps fund security on the day, first aiders, licences and insurance – as well as running costs like tickets, posters and signs. And it helps make sure this amazing carnival remains free everyone.
In previous years the carnival has had birds of prey displays, BMX shows, Judo displays, fairground rides, Morris dancing competitions, donkey rides, a dementia bus, dog shows, a zip wire course and a monster truck demonstration – and much more.
Councillor Sarah Squires, Community Councillor for Gwersyllt South says: “I feel The Wauns Carnival brings a great sense of enjoyment for children and adults on the day – if you’ve attended you will have experienced that feeling.
“Year by year the carnival is growing, and every year we try and bring something new and exciting to it.”
This year’s event is being held on Saturday, August 10.
The Wauns carnival would not be possible without the help of volunteers and the support of the community. There is a lot of work behind the scenes, and a big thank you to Councillor Tina Mannering who is a big part of this, together with the carnival committee.
The carnival is always looking for volunteers on the day, for litter-picking and general help. If you would like to be considered please drop them a message via email.
The carnival is also looking for stalls. If you would like to book a place please don’t hesitate to get in touch via email or Facebook.
