Whilst the changes to High Street and access to city centre will take a little time to get used to this is not an excuse for driving past no entry signs.
The signs are in situ to make drivers aware of the new system in place however unfortunately we have seen several vehicles breaking the law and putting other road users at risk by ignoring the new rules in place.
This behaviour is dangerous and it can and will lead to prosecutions.
Further details explaining the current setup are available on our blog and website
Lead member for Economy Cllr Nigel Williams said “The layout of High Street is the new normal and adhering to the new rules and regulations will make the area safer and more inviting to everyone.
“The bollards and signage are in place to ensure the safety of everyone accessing the city centre.
“There has been great interest in the new layout and how it can positively impact on city centre trade and visits. “I also noted lots of interest recently in the circular bollards lining Yorke Street! “These are in place as the road leading up to High Street is not straight and they are to aid cars in keeping a driving line as well as to deter parking in the area.”
