Guest article – Wrecsam 2029 City of Culture team
Following an incredible campaign to host City of Culture 2025, Wrexham is bidding again to host UK City of Culture 2029 – a prestigious title that would see Wrexham deliver a county-wide programme of cultural events during the year 2029.
Securing the title would bring significant economic and social benefits to Wrexham, attracting inward investment, creating jobs, increasing access to cultural activity and giving us an opportunity to tell Wrexham’s story on a national scale.
Whilst the formal bidding process for 2029 is yet to open, we’ve been busy behind the scenes establishing the new ‘Wrexham Community & Culture Trust’, and putting everything we need in place so we can hit the ground running as soon as it does.
If you’d like to find out more about our journey so far, we are hosting a series of 6 drop-in sessions in April and May at various locations across Wrexham County. The sessions will provide an opportunity to:
- Meet the City of Culture Team
- Learn more about UK City of Culture and what it could mean for Wrexham
- Hear about our progress so far
- Share your ideas for the Wrecsam2029 UK City of Culture Bid
