Trading Standards has warned that scammers are operating in the Wrexham area selling damaged TV’s and pocketing the cash.

A recent incident saw a victim approached by 2 males whilst filling up his vehicle at a local filling station.

The male scammers told the victim that they were delivering goods and made reference to Amazon.

They said that due to the current COVID situation there was surplus stock of televisions, which they were returning to the warehouse– where they would be scrapped.

The victim was made to feel flustered by the male scammers who were very persuasive and convincing, quoting him £100 for a brand new television.

The victim withdrew £100, paid the scammers, and the television was hastily placed into the boot of his car.  After unwrapping the yards of Cellophane and bubble wrap the victim found that the screen was smashed.

If you are approached by these rogue traders, please contact the Police dedicated 101 non-emergency line so appropriate action can be taken.  Record as much detail as possible about the individuals, their vehicle and any names given.
