Do you recycle food waste with us? If you don’t already, you really should start…
Basically, recycling leftovers is simple, and much more hygienic than putting them in your other bins.
Our food recycling service has everything already in place, so you get the things you need to recycle food waste easily. It works like this:
- We offer free food caddys (order easily on our website)
- We provide free caddy liners for you to use (find out how in a second)
- Then we collect your food waste at the kerbside on a weekly basis
There are a couple of ways you can get our free caddy liners. Here’s what you need to do…
1. Collect from over 40 locations in Wrexham
Did you know you can get free caddy liners and replacement blue sacks at a variety of locations in Wrexham, including a number of convenience stores, estate offices, libraries and recycling centres?
We’ve recently re-stocked them, so you can just pop into one of the local venues and collect the items for free when you need them.
2. Tie a liner to your caddy handle
You can get our free caddy liners by simply tying an empty liner to your caddy handle on your collection day and the recycling crew will leave you a new roll.
The recycling crews also carry blue sacks on their vehicle, so you can ask one of the team for a replacement the next time we’re collecting from your street.
“Aim to make it easy for residents to recycle in Wrexham”
Cllr David A Bithell, Deputy Leader and Lead Member for Environment, said: “The free caddy liners (for food waste recycling) and blue sacks (for paper and cardboard recycling) are available in over 40 locations across the county borough, as we aim to make it easy for residents to recycle in Wrexham.
“Or if you prefer, you can tie a liner to your food caddy on your collection day, and the crew will leave you a roll. They also carry blue sacks on the wagons if you need a replacement too. Please make sure to recycle your leftovers with us – it makes a big difference.”
Order new caddies easily online
We offer free replacement caddies, so if your home doesn’t have a kitchen or kerbside caddy you just need to order a new one.
You can request a new food caddy easily on our website, where you can also order new recycling boxes if you need them.
What can be recycled as food waste?
As well as everything you will already know about, look at this list some of the foods you mightn’t necessarily think of, such as:
- Out of date foods
- Bones and carcasses
- Egg shells
- Banana peelings (and other peelings)
- Apple cores
- Coffee granules
- Raw foods
- Mouldy foods
- Plate scrapings
- Uneaten ready meals
- Fast food (e.g. chips and pizzas)

Things that we don’t want you to try and recycle as food waste are liquids (such as oil or milk), packaging, plastic bags, nappies or garden waste.
