Residents are being invited to attend a special Welsh Guards Falklands memorial service and parade in Wrexham, which will include the unveiling of a new Afghanistan Conflict Memorial.
The event will take place on 27 June and will begin with a church service at 11am at St Giles’ Parish Church, before a parade makes its way to Bodhyfryd for the unveiling of the new memorial and a short wreath-laying service.
The annual Welsh Guards parade is now in its 44th year and continues to be held in Wrexham each year, reflecting the strong and historic connection between the city and the regiment.
The Welsh Guards have long-standing ties with Wrexham, the regiment was granted Freedom of the County Borough in 2014 and has participated in numerous Freedom Marches through the city.
The new Afghanistan Conflict Memorial will honour members of the Welsh Guards who served, and those who gave their lives, during operations in Afghanistan. The memorial will provide a permanent and accessible place of remembrance for families, veterans, serving personnel and the wider community.
Representatives of the Welsh Guards have chosen Wrexham as their spiritual home for remembrance, with the new memorial complementing existing memorials in the Garden of Remembrance, including those linked to the Falklands, Burma and Normandy.

Residents are welcome to attend the church service, watch the parade and join the wreath-laying service at Bodhyfryd.
