CCTV control room Wrexham

Plans to develop a shared CCTV service with Flintshire County Council are up for debate next Tuesday when our Executive Board meets to discuss the options available.

Officers from both Flintshire and Wrexham Councils have taken a look at the benefits, both financially and operationally, of sharing a CCTV control room operating on a digital platform.

The plans indicate that images and data from Flintshire Council would be monitored at the existing control room in Wrexham.

The report asks for approval for the plans to go ahead and to move towards a Service Level Agreement between the two authorities.

The report – to be presented by Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety – outlines previous attempts to bring regional CCTV operations together with no success, mainly due to contractual arrangements in force at the time.

More recently, however, the option to partner with Flintshire has become a viable option and could see savings made by both authorities, with one CCTV operational team.

The plans will also have to be agreed by Flintshire’s Cabinet, and if approval is given from both sides the proposals will be taken forward for a shared services hosted in Wrexham with costs recovered from Flintshire Council.

The proposals will be discussed on Tuesday, May 14, when Executive Board meets for its monthly meeting.

The meeting will be webcast live – click here to view the live meeting
