Solar and wind power throws light on the darkness

We’ve recently finished two lighting schemes in the county using solar and wind powered lanterns – the first of their kind in Wrexham.

The first project is along a cycle and footway in Penycae which had no lighting due to problems accessing the power supply in the area. It was funded through the Welsh Assembly’s Local Sustainable Transport Covid Response Grant and has meant a lot for local users.

Book your Covid-19 vaccination appointment online.

Cllr John Phillips, local member said. “The lighting has been very well received by residents and is a big boost to cyclists and residents alike. The area now looks very user friendly and we can dim the lighting remotely during the darkest periods of the night.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in ensuring this project went ahead for the residents of Penycae.”

The second project, funded by Esclusham Community Council, has seen improvements made to lighting in an area where difficulties in finding a power supply prevented the usual footway lighting being installed.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “Whilst not major projects these are important steps into the sustainable use of new technology in order to make improvements for residents.

“I hope we can build on these two projects and to see the technology used to benefit the environment which will help reduce our carbon footprint even more.”

Booking a Covid-19 vaccine appointment is now easier than ever.
