The Wrexham Library building is 50 years old this year and we have asked you to tell us about your memories of the library over the years.
But what about the building itself? What is its story?
Here are some facts about the building that you may not already know:
- it took nearly a year and a half to build – starting in June 1971 and the library service finally moved in there in December 1972
- it cost £178,000 to build
- it was designed by architect James A Roberts and built by RM Douglas Construction Ltd
- it was purpose built to be Wrexham Library
- when it opened, the building attached (now the police station) was still being built
- James Idwal Jones (former MP for Wrexham) officially opened the library and was Chairman of the Public Library Committee
