Back to school – do you know a headteacher who’s looking for a new challenge?

School children and teachers are gearing up to go back to school after the summer break this week…and one school in Wrexham is looking for a new headteacher to guide them and help shape their future.

Ysgol Bodhyfryd is the oldest Welsh medium primary school in Wrexham and the Governing Body is actively recruiting for the post of headteacher.

“Gyda’n Gilydd” (‘together’) is the school’s motto and the children have been working with the Governors on the recruitment campaign, and there’s still time to apply…the closing date is September 11.

The children have also been giving their thoughts on what they want in a new headteacher and the school has been ‘tweeting’ across the summer holidays:

Gwenno said ‘we need a head who will care for us and help us learn’.

Hedd said ‘we need a head who is full of fun and great ideas!’

And William said that he wants ‘a headteacher who likes sport and who is also good at organising trips!’

It’s a great opportunity for the right person and if this sounds like you or someone you know, please read on…

You’ll need great enthusiasm and be a Welsh speaker. You’ll either be an experienced headteacher or an exceptional teaching practitioner who holds the NPQH qualification.

You need a passion for improvement, experience as a leader, great teamwork and fantastic communication.

You’ll look to the future and won’t be afraid to try new things.

So, do you want to opportunity to lead this wonderful team?

Take a look at these new children’s library cards

In October last year, our library service launched a contest to design a new library card for children.

We knew the competition would be popular – but we didn’t know just how popular it was going to be!

All in all, we had more than 450 entries – all of which are now brightening up the foyer at Wrexham Library.

KIDS IN SCHOOL? FIND OUT IF YOU CAN APPLY FOR HELP TOWARDS SCHOOL UNIFORM COSTS AND MORE…

The winners of the competition were Daisy Moore and Felicity Woods, who were presented with their gift vouchers and new library cards in a presentation ceremony at Wrexham Library.

The two winning designs have already been made into library cards and will replace the current children’s library card design.

There’s never a bad time to get a library card- so come along to Wrexham Library and pick up one of the redesigned cards.

All children (aged under 12) need to apply for a library card is the permission of a parent, and some form of ID or proof of address.

And while there, why not take a look at all the submitted entries in the foyer, sent in by hundreds of children and adults from all across Wrexham?

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, said: “I’d like to congratulate Daisy and Felicity for their winning entries to the library card design contest, and I’m sure their bright and colourful designs will be welcomed by our younger library users.”

The group is for new and expectant parents to come together, get to know one another, share the ups and downs of new parenthood, and make new friends!

KIDS IN SCHOOL? FIND OUT IF YOU CAN APPLY FOR HELP TOWARDS SCHOOL UNIFORM COSTS AND MORE…

Suitable for babies up to 2 years old. Older siblings are more than welcome to join in too, especially over the summer holidays!

Everyone is welcome, you do not need to be an NCT member to attend. All parents and carers, mums, dads and grandparents are welcome.

    More about NCT…

NCT has been helping new parents since 1956.  They are here to support parents. They do not tell them what to think – through NCT classes, branches and helplines, volunteers and qualified representatives give parents accurate, impartial information so that they can decide what’s best for their family. Through NCT they can join a support network of other parents nearby, which can be a lifeline in the early years.

  • How you can learn a language absolutely free

How you can learn a language absolutely free

Learning new languages is something most of us have all been keen to do to broaden our minds and increase our own skills.

Finding the time and covering the cost can be a difficult when trying to balance other aspects of our lives. However, there is a brand new way where you can finally harness the linguistic skills that you need with free informal Welsh lessons every week.

Hosted at Tŷ Pawb at the Flexi Space, beginners to Welsh can begin their path to mastering the language without paying a penny with lessons and activities every Sunday from 10am-12pm, and 1pm-3pm.

The session begins with an informal hour-long lesson aimed at the basics before the second hour focuses on a more relaxed vibe where you can play games or just chill with a drink from Blank Canvas to give you the opportunity to speak and listen in Welsh.

KIDS IN SCHOOL? FIND OUT IF YOU CAN APPLY FOR HELP TOWARDS SCHOOL UNIFORM COSTS AND MORE…

Being multi-lingual is a great skill to have and speaking Cymraeg in Wales is a huge advantage in regards to employment and opportunities, whilst tapping into the culture and heritage here in Wrexham and wider Wales.

The Welsh government recently launched their ‘Cymraeg 2050’ campaign and are looking to see a rise of a million Welsh speakers in the country in the next 30 or so years. Why not tap into this amazing language and further your skills? It’s shown that bilingual people often improve their problem solving, multitasking and decision making whilst more and more people are learning – just some of the reasons to give it a go!

So, if you fancy heading down the first session will take place on Sunday, September 2nd and run each week – if you need more information you can call 01978 292144 or e-mail TyPawb@wrexham.gov.uk

  • Reminder about school transport

    Reminder about school transport

Did you know that we are responsible for transporting around 2,000 pupils aged 4 – 16 to schools across the county borough? These are children who are eligible for free transport to their nearest school.

If your child qualifies for free transport you should have already received your confirmation letter and bus pass but with September just around the corner we’re reminding parents and guardians to apply straight away for a bus pass if you think your child is eligible for free transport.

You can check if your child is eligible by taking a look at our criteria here

If you have any enquiries about school transport you can email school.transport@wrexham.gov.uk

We can’t guarantee that late applications will be arranged in time for the first week of school so you may have to consider making alternative arrangements for a short while.
