This note provides an update on the information posted on this blog on Wednesday (1.4.20).
Key messages for today
- We want to thank all council employees and members of the public for their determination, patience and kindness over the past few weeks.
- We’ll continue to provide grab-and-go packed lunches to children entitled to free school meals over the Easter school holidays, as well as to children still attending school.
- All of our household recycling centres will be closed by the end of today. Kerbside waste collection from outside your home is continuing as normal.
- We’re continuing to pay out grants to businesses that pay business rates.

Thank you to council employees and members of the public
Many of us are tired. Many of us are anxious, confused and frustrated. But we’re all getting on with it.
Whatever we need to do to get through this emergency, we’re doing it.
Whatever disruption and difficulties we have to face, we’re facing them together as families, friends, neighbours and communities.
So today, we’d like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to both council employees and members of the public.
We know that council staff are working incredibly hard to keep our critical services going, and that local residents are showing tremendous understanding and patience, as they’re asked to make huge changes to their daily lives.
It’s been said many times in the past few weeks, but we’re facing an unprecedented challenge in the UK.
But the determination, patience and kindness of both council employees and local people will help us get through this in Wrexham.
We are so grateful for your support.
We need to keep going, and there’s no doubt we will.

Update on free school meals over the Easter holidays
During week-days, we’ll continue to provide free school meals over the Easter holidays (including bank holidays) for children who aren’t in school…as well as meals for all children who are still in school.
All meals will be ‘grab and go’ packed lunches.
If your children aren’t in school and they’re entitled to free school meals, you can collect their packed lunches from one of the following sites (which includes a new pick-up point in Brymbo).

- Plas Madoc Estates office
- Broughton Estates office
- Gwersyllt Estates office
- Rhos Estates office (Stiwt)
- Memo Hall Wrexham
- Plas Pentwyn Coedpoeth
- Llay Resource Centre
- Overton Library (Cocoa Rooms)
- Ysgol Y Waen Chirk
- Brymbo Resource Centre
You can go to the nearest site.
Packed lunches must be collected between 11.30am and 1pm by a parent or carer.
You’ll need to give staff the name of your child / children and the school they attend, and you’ll only be able to collect a packed lunch for your own child / children.
Please continue to follow social distancing measures…maintaining your distance from other people.

Cemeteries
Our cemeteries are still open, but anyone visiting must follow social distancing rules.
Keep at least two metres away from anyone you don’t live with.
Welsh Government letter to social housing tenants
A letter has been issued for all social housing tenants from the Minister for Housing and Local Government.

Reminder – we’re closing our household recycling centres
Earlier this week, we announced we were closing all three of our household waste recycling centres.
The Plas Madoc site closed on Tuesday, and Bryn Lane and Brymbo will close by 4pm today (April 3).
You can read more about the reasons we’re closing the sites in the blog article we posted yesterday.
Kerbside waste collection (emptying your black bins, recycling containers, green bins etc) is continuing as normal for the time being.
However, we’re having to review the services we deliver on a daily basis, as we try to balance the needs of residents with UK Government guidelines, and the health and safety of our communities and staff.
Reminder – grants for your business?
Do you pay business rates? Wrexham Council can provide grants of £10,000 to firms that receive Small Business Rates Relief.
The funding was recently made available by Welsh Government, and the grants are aimed at businesses based in premises with a rateable value of up to £12,000.
There’s also a £25,000 grant available for businesses in the retail, leisure and hospitality sector, based in premises with a rateable value between £12,001 and £51,000.
Both grants are only available to firms on the business rates register as of March 20, 2020.

AVOW (Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham) is encouraging people to sign-up.
