Temporary warning signs have been placed around the Johnstown area as part of ongoing work to encourage responsible dog ownership and reduce dog fouling in local communities.
Following monthly analysis of dog fouling reports across the County Borough, Johnstown was identified as an area where additional awareness and patrols could help address recurring issues.
The temporary signage reminds dog owners that dogs should be kept on leads on the public highway, dog fouling must be picked up and that enforcement patrols are taking place in the area.
The signs will remain in place for several weeks before being moved to another location identified through future monthly reporting and analysis.
Councillor David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment said, “Dog fouling is unacceptable and has a negative impact on our communities, public spaces and the people who use them”
“Most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their pets, but unfortunately a small minority continue to ignore their responsibilities. These temporary signs are a visible reminder that dog owners must pick up after their dogs and keep them under control.”
“By targeting areas identified through local reports, we can take a more focused approach to raising awareness, encouraging responsible behaviour and helping to keep our streets and public areas clean.”
The initiative aims to raise awareness, encourage responsible dog ownership and support cleaner, safer public spaces for everyone.
Residents are reminded to always carry bags when walking their dog, clean up immediately after their pet, and dispose of waste responsibly.
