We reported last February that we had identified over £420,000 of funding to be spent on Queen Street and Hope Street to improve the areas for visitors and shoppers alike.
Now we are pleased to let you know that work will start on July 23 to replace the block paved surface – which is now 30 years old – with sandstone, porphyry rock (similar to quartz), and granite which will give a modern facelift to our main shopping street.
“Paving, landscaping, seating and street furniture”
Dawnus Construction Holdings Ltd., will undertake the works and are hoping to be finished within a 10 week period. The plans also include replacement of paving, landscaping, seating and street furniture.
These works follow street lighting replacement and improvements that have been completed recently.
The works will take place between Monday and Friday and you’ll be able to access all the shops during this time. There will be traffic orders for the pedestrianised area, which will be closed to all traffic between 11.30am and 5pm every working day.

Blue Badge holders and delivery vehicles will have through access outside of these hours as normal.
“Minimise any inconvenience”
Dawnus and council staff have been liaising with shops and local businesses to miminise any inconvenience whilst the works take place.
There’s an opportunity to see for yourself what’s planned at a display at Tŷ Pawb on July 17 between 5pm and 7pm. Representatives from both Dawnus and the Council will be on hand to answer any of your questions.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment, said: “I’m very grateful to staff for their hard work in ensuring the improvements will be of the very highest quality whilst the inconvenience to town centre businesses and visitors is kept to a minimum. The extent of the works means there will inevitably be disruption but I hope everyone will continue to support the town centre whilst the works take place.”
Cllr Terry Evans, Lead member for Economic Development and Regeneration said: “It’s important our town centre looks attractive for businesses and shoppers alike. These works will certainly brighten up the area and make Wrexham town centre a pleasant place to be.”
