  • First arts exhibition for Tŷ Pawb announced

First arts exhibition for Tŷ Pawb announced

Tŷ Pawb, the new multi-million pound markets, community and arts facility in the heart of Wrexham, will open with festivities for Dydd Llun Pawb on April 2.

We’re now pleased to announce the first exhibition, which will launch Tŷ Pawb’s rolling program of arts and cultural events.

Is this Planet Earth? will come to Tŷ Pawb from April 2 to June 24.

GET SNAPPY – FOLLOW US ON SNAPCHAT.

Made up of the work of ten different artists, the exhibition will explore what the earth might look like in future, with a strong focus on environmental and ecological changes. The exhibition will feature Wrexham-specific artwork, along with some pieces looking at global themes.

Is This Planet Earth? will appeal to science-fiction fans and people interested in the environment.

But we’re keen to attract anyone who’s interested in the arts in Wrexham, and anyone who’s taken an interest in Tŷ Pawb during its development, as the exhibition will also be an excellent chance to showcase the capabilities of the new gallery and arts spaces.

    “Significant milestone”

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, said: “Is This Planet Earth? will mark a significant milestone in Wrexham’s arts history, a moment we have been building towards for a number of years.

“More importantly, the exhibition will be something for the whole of Wrexham to celebrate and be proud of as we open Tŷ Pawb to the world.

“An ambitious exhibition of contemporary art, it will show off the excellent new galleries whilst addressing important contemporary concerns. This reflects Tŷ Pawb’s commitment to discussing social and civic issues through the visual arts.

Following Is This Planet Earth?, Tŷ Pawb will exhibit a touring exhibition from the Arts Council Collection.

These exhibitions will be followed later in 2018 by the return of the Wrexham Open in collaboration with THIS Project – a community of artists, arts organisations, creative individuals, and bodies that support the arts and culture in Wrexham – spanning both the Tŷ Pawb and Undegun galleries.

  • Are you a member of the fastest growing club in Wrexham?

Are you a member of the fastest growing club in Wrexham?

It may sound like rubbish but being a member of the “Bin Reminder Alert” club means you’ll never miss a bin collection again and you’ll always know which bin to put out alongside your recyclables.

Between the beginning of December and the beginning of January a massive 1454 of you signed up on our website simply by entering your email address and post code onto our website. There’s now 8840 households in total receiving reminders.

Having a bin reminder means never missing a collection as you will receive an email the day before your collection is due which will tell you which bin to put out along with your recyclables.

The majority of those who signed during this time did so by following a link such as the one below – if you haven’t already signed up for a bin alert reminder then why not do so now?

NEVER MISS A BIN COLLECTION – SIGN UP FOR WEEKLY EMAIL REMINDERS NOW.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The majority of households have access to the internet and this is a great little online tool that can be used by them. It’s free to use and also takes into account the changes for Christmas collections which can be the most problematic for us and for our residents.”

  • Cash available for sports groups – don’t miss out!

Cash available for sports groups – don’t miss out!

Do you run a sports group? Are you involved in running one?

If you are, you shouldn’t miss out on this.

Another round of applications for Community Chest funding from Sports Wales is open, with applications closing on Wednesday, January 17.

There are loads of sporting groups in Wrexham, offering the chance to take part in sports such as football, rugby, boxing, athletics, tennis and many more.

Are you a member of one of these many community sporting groups?

If so, you shouldn’t miss the chance to get some extra funding, which could help you with everything from equipment to training.

The programme has already seen more than £50,000 given to groups since April last year.

And if your group specifically promotes sports for women or girls, disabled participants or social inclusion, you could be able to access even more money.

    Sports can “bring people together”

Cllr Paul Rogers, Lead Member for Youth and Anti-Poverty, said: “There are a lot of good sports and athletics groups out there which do excellent work in their community.

“They’re not just helping people to get fit and stay fit – they’re also helping to bring people together, give them a chance to make new friends and socialise.

“I’d encourage any sports groups who think they could benefit from grant support to get in touch and take advantage of this opportunity.”
