Date for your diary – Play Day 2019!!!

Organisers are gearing up for this year’s Play Day which takes place on Wednesday, August 7 in the town centre between 12noon and 4pm.

Regulars to Play Day will know that it’s the day when children take over the town centre and parents and carers watch on while everyone gets very wet and very messy 🙂

There’s all the usual activities including den building, a big maze, the popular water slide, the giant sand pit and plenty for even the very youngest of children.

COULD YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIFE OF A CHILD IN CARE?

Playing is what being a child is all about and Play Day is the day we all get to take a side step and give them plenty of room to do just that.

Around 4,000 people visited last year’s event and we want to see even more this year. All you need to bring with you is a playful mood and of course some clothes you don’t mind getting wet and messy.

We’d also love you to bring a picnic and stay for the day or make the most of what’s available in the town centre.

We love it and we look forward to welcoming children of all ages once again to take over the town centre.

We hope to see you on August 7 in the town centre between 12noon and 4pm.

  • It’s your duty to care

    It’s your duty to care

You could be about to get a fine of £300 – read on to make sure this doesn’t come true!

If you have any unwanted items or household rubbish and you want someone to take it away, Fly-Tipping Action Wales is sending out the message that it is your duty to care who takes it away.

If you leave rubbish somewhere it shouldn’t be – i.e. anywhere that isn’t the bin or recycling centre – it is fly-tipping. It can be a single bin bag or thousands of tonnes of waste. It can be dangerous, pollute land and waterways and costs Local Authorities significant amounts of money to clear away.

COULD YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THE LIFE OF A CHILD IN CARE?

It is also a problem if you pay someone to take your waste away and they don’t take it to the proper place to dispose of it. When the waste is reported, it will be you that is landed with the fine, and you could also be prosecuted, with fines of up to £5000.

So…how can you make sure your waste goes to the right place?

Here are two simple steps to making sure what is being taken away will be disposed of properly:

    1. Check that the person or company taking your rubbish is a registered waste carrier. You can check online by visiting naturalresources.wales/checkWaste
    2. Always ask where your waste is going.

Fly-tipping Action Wales also recommends that you:

    • Record any checks that you make, including the operator’s registration number
    • Keep a receipt which includes a description of the waste and company used
    • Record details of the business or vehicle (registration, make, model, colour)

For advice on how to dispose of your household rubbish and unwanted items safely, legally and responsibly please visit the householder advice page.
